Scientists from the Faculty of Biological and Veterinary Sciences of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin won a gold medal and a special award at the Innovation Week in Africa 2021 fair in Morocco. The researchers were awarded for “Innovative (eco) material for use in agriculture and horticulture”.
The subject of the invention is a method of producing an eco-foil of polylactide and tar. The material has favorable bactericidal, fungicidal and barrier properties. The foil is biodegradable in various environments (water and soil). It has application potential, especially in agriculture and horticulture. The research is financed by the “Incubator of Innovation 4.0” program of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The “Innovation Week in Africa” in Morocco is one of the largest and most famous events of its kind in the world. This year’s showroom gathered nearly a thousand inventions from 70 countries.
