University of Medical Sciences in Wrocław will launch soon the University Centre for Robotic Surgery (UCCR). This is a brand new centre, unique in the country that will serve clinical, teaching and scientific purposes. It is being built at the University Clinical Hospital and will house cutting-edge technologies in the surgical treatment of cancer.
The heart of the UCCR is the da Vinci Xi robotic system along with an operating table synchronised with it. The components of the system are a robotic platform with four working arms, a surgical console and a vision track.
The robotic room will be equipped with a multimedia system that allows live streaming of the operations in progress and two-way contact between the operating team and the audience, the trainees. The first operation at UCCR assisted by the da Vinci robot is scheduled for July this year. This is likely to be a radical prostatectomy on a patient with prostate cancer.
