The University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Gdańsk was awarded in the competition “Code of Innovation” for the use of bar codes for the identification of medical devices, which can provide the elimination of medical errors.

Implementation works of the medical barcode identification system started in Gdańsk in 2015. The goal was the efficient assignment in the IT system of a medical device used in the treatment process for a particular patient – based on a global standard for tracking and tracing products (so-called traceability).

The competition is organized by the GS1 Polska Foundation – the only institution authorized to accept companies from Poland and the EU to the GS1 System and to grant them the right to use GS1 codes. The global GS1 organization operates in 150 countries around the world. From 2018, it awards prizes to companies and organizations that use GS1 standards to improve their efficiency.
