University drone examines air quality in Wroclaw

15.02.2018

The Department of Climatology and Atmospheric Protection at the University of Wrocław is testing air quality with a modern drone. The device was purchased thanks to a subsidy from the Municipal Office in Wrocław.

The idea for the purchase of a drone by the University of Wroclaw appeared already in 2015, when the LIFE-APIS / PL project implemented by the Department of Climatology and Atmospheric Protection was awarded with the Polish Innovation Prize. It was a great opportunity to establish scientific cooperation with Optimum Tymiński Company, which in 2017 created the first unmanned flying platform.

In environmental monitoring, drones are very popular and have different applications. The University drone is used as a platform for measuring air quality and basic meteorological parameters. The range of measurements is several hundred meters.

The drone is equipped with the so-called environmental warhead, measuring dust and ozone concentration; in addition, it measures the temperature and humidity of the air.
