“Restoration and conservation of wetlands, peat bogs and wetlands in Natura 2000 and Green Infrastructure areas” is the title of a strategic LIFE project that the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will support with nearly PLN 58 million. The programme’s co-beneficiaries are: General Directorate for Environmental Protection and the University of Agriculture in Kraków.
Implementation of the project will contribute to preventing the loss of biodiversity in an area of over 120,000 hectares. The proposal includes, among other things, active protection to maintain or improve the conservation status of marshes, peat bogs and wetlands.
The project will result in the improvement of nearly 20 % of the area of habitats of bogs, fens or other Natura 2000 sites four years after the start of the activities, while after nine years the restoration will cover as much as 20-35 % of these areas. The total budget of the 10-year project is more than PLN 165 million.
