The Department of Political Economy of the University of Economics in Katowice is inviting participants to the 5th Nobel Colloquium “Without destination. On the network of Douglass C. North institutions”.
The speaker of the meeting will be Dr Sławomir Czech, who will present the profile and scientific achievements of Douglass C. North, winner of the Bank of Sweden Award of Alfred Nobel in economics in 1993 (together with Robert Fogl) awarded for “contribution to the renewal of economic history through the application of economic theories”.
The subject of Douglass North’s research were institutions understood as “rules of the game in society” or “man-designed limitations that structure interactions between people.” In his works, North, as an economic historian, referred to the question that gave rise to economics as a science, i.e. why some societies became rich and others could not break out of the low-growth trap.
