Dr Maciej Beręsewicz from the Department of Statistics at the University of Economics in Poznań received almost 860,000. PLN funding from the National Science Center. Thanks to the subsidy obtained under the Opus 20 competition he will implement the project “Statistics of foreigners without a census – quality, data integration and estimation”.
The main goal of his project is to develop methods for estimating the size and characteristics of the population of foreigners in Poland based on available databases, including the use of alternative data sources, such as information from smartphones.
The use of multiple sets will allow for obtaining census-like estimates without the need to conduct the survey in a traditional form. This presents methodological challenges resulting from combining multiple data sources and their non-statistical nature. The research team will take into account the impact of data integration and errors of non-random data sources on the estimation process and quality assessment of the obtained estimates.
