Representatives of the University of Gdańsk and five other European universities have signed a declaration of participation in the “European University of the Seas” initiative (SEA-EU), which aims to obtain funding for the creation of a European university.

The SEA-EU consortium, along with the University of Gdańsk, includes: Universidad de Cádiz (Spain) – leader; Sveučilište u Split (Croatia); Université de Bretagne Occidentale (France); Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Germany) and L-Università ta ‘Malta.

The idea of establishing European universities has been initiated by member states of the European Union (EU), the Council and the European Commission. By 2024, about twenty European universities are to be established, which will form a basic university network in the EU, enabling students to obtain academic degrees by combining studies in EU countries and thus contributing to the increase of international competitiveness of European universities.
