University of Lodz appoints the University Council

20.12.2018

Roman Wieczorek became the chairman of the university board of the University of Lodz. It was composed of seven people, including three from outside the university and the chairman of the students’ self-government. The establishment of such a body is required by the Law on Higher Education and Science.

The Law on Higher Education and Science assumes that from the next academic year, at each public university in Poland, a new university council will appear, whose tasks include monitoring financial management and university management, as well as indicating candidates for rector. The Council is also to give opinions on the draft statute and strategy of the university and reports on the implementation of the university’s strategy.

According to the regulations, the university council consists of 6 or 8 people, appointed by the senate. In the case of the University of Lodz, a six-person team was elected. The seventh person automatically included in this body is always the chairman of the students’ self-government.
