Researchers from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz received the highest distinction of the European Commission, the “Best of the Best” prize, for the project of cleaning the water tanks in the Arturówek in Lodz. The project and activities of the team from the Lodz University were considered the best solution in Europe in the “environment” category – informs the Promotion Center of the University of Lodz.

The coordinator of the project was Professor Maciej Zalewski, and the teamwork was led by Dr Tomasz Jurczak. The project “Ecohydrological remediation of recreational reservoirs” Arturówek “(Łódź) as a model approach to the remediation of urban reservoirs” was implemented in 2010-2016. Thanks to the work of the Lodz scientists, the water quality in the upper Bzura river basin, which includes Arturówka reservoirs significantly improved in a short time.
