The Library of the University of Lodz (UŁ) completed in June the two-year project “Handwritten Cultural Heritage of the 15th-18th Century in the Collections of the Library of the University of Lodz”, financed by the Ministry of Education and Science under the “Social Responsibility of Science” program.
The project was led by the director of the University Library, Tomasz Piestrzyński, and was coordinated by Deputy Director Dorota Bartnik.
It was the first project dealing with manuscripts in the history of the University Library. Among the 50 most valuable monuments of the Lodz University Library included in the project were Catholic and Orthodox religious codes from the 15th-16th centuries; Church files and documents from the 17th and 18th centuries; guild documents from the 16th-18th centuries; royal letters and documents of historical importance.
The culmination of the project is a virtual exhibition, which presents 12 historic manuscripts with a commentary, photo gallery and literature on the subject.
