The Institute of Pedagogical Sciences of the University of Opole has launched the “Effects of prison isolation”. It is a kind of museum where there are items made by people deprived of their liberty.
In the studio arranged in one of the university’s lecture halls there are paintings, sculptures, poems made by the convicts, as well as hand-made water heaters, tools for making tattoos, self-mutilation of the body and weapons used during fights. There is also a room that reflects the conditions of a prison cell.
All items presented at the exhibition come from the private collections of a lecturer at the University of Opole and a penitentiary specialist in the District Inspectorate of the Prison Service in Opole – Dr Mariusz Snopek, who has been collecting works of prisoners since 2006. His collection of prison works consists of over a thousand exhibits.
