The University of Opole for the sixth time launched the Virtual Academy of Astronomy. The inaugural lecture “Why is it worth observing the sky” was given by Grzegorz Sęk from the Youth Astronomical Observatory in Niepołomice.
Virtual Academy of Astronomy supports the work of schools in the implementation of additional classes on astronomy and physics. Scholars of the Opole University conduct lectures, workshops and astronomical observations. Classes are held at school or at the University of Opole. During the classes students acquire competences in the field of computer science, physics and astronomy.
Joint observations and team work allow to mobilize students to cooperate with colleagues. An additional motivation is the “Discoverer of the Worlds” competition, organized during the school year, while young people can compete in the following areas: literature, art and photography, and in the most prestigious category – the best research work.
