The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia summarised the scientific project ‘Impact of long-term emissions of pollutants – environmental, health and socio-cultural effects of non-ferrous metallurgy’.

The project brought together a team of several dozen researchers from the University of Silesia and other universities in the country and abroad, representing many disciplines: biology, literary studies, geology, history, socio-economic and physical geography, art history, chemistry, sociology and musicology.

The aim was a research quest attempting to answer the questions of how, when, why and in what ways non-ferrous metallurgy and the pollution it generated affected people’s lives and the environment, and what kind of changes it induced. The project focused mainly on researching the space of Katowice (in particular Szopienice and Roździeń), as well as Chorzów and Świętochłowice.
