Sylwia Giza, a PhD student from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia, has won the 6th regional “Three Minute Thesis” competition. Her presentation ‘I know you’re watching me! Digital advertising vs. privacy” was devoted to illustrating the problem of personal data protection in profiling for online advertising.

In her presentation, the PhD student covered two perspectives related to technical and legal profiling. She presented the scale of this phenomenon and pointed out the difficulties that arise when trying to regulate it legally.

“Three Minute Thesis” is a global science communication competition licensed by the University of Queensland in Australia. Participants are tasked with presenting their dissertation topic in the most accessible way possible to a wide audience. They must do this in three minutes and may not use props or teaching aids, apart from one slide displayed throughout the presentation.
