In the latest Web of Universities (Webometrics) ranking, the University of Silesia in Katowice ranked higher than last year. The university improved its results in both the national and international parts of the ranking.

The ranking includes more than 31,000 higher education institutions from around the world, including almost 400 from Poland. The Silesian university was ranked fifteenth in the country. This is a promotion of one place in relation to the previous ranking. In the global ranking, the university moved up by seventeen positions to 1123rd (1140th a year ago). 

The Webometrics ranking has been published twice a year since 2004 by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), the Supreme Council for Scientific Research in Madrid. Its main objective is to promote the presence of academic and research institutions and to support all open access ventures.
