The University of Silesia in Katowice was ranked in the thirteenth position among the twenty best research universities in Poland. Thanks to this, in the years 2020–2026 it will receive a subsidy increased by 2%.

Each of the twenty universities, participants of the first competition in the “Initiative of Excellence – Research College” program, was evaluated by fifteen outstanding experts, including former rectors, presidents or vice-rectors of leading European universities. The team members were also scientists who enjoy authority in the international scientific community.

Participation in the program, increasing funding and recommendations received from an international team of experts will allow further strengthening of the research position of the Silesian university and even better use of its development potential.
