The University of Silesia in Katowice awarded the “Amicus Librorum” statuette from the Silesian Library. The statuette is honoring outstanding figures and institutions that have contributed to the enrichment and strengthening of culture, the region and the city.
The award was granted in the 50th anniversary of the Silesian university. It is an appreciation of the university and its contribution to the development of the region. Many scientific and popular science works that have been created at the University of Silesia are the result of research carried out thanks to the rich, often unique collections of the Silesian Library in the world.
The university and Library in 2006 established the Silesian Digital Library. The project promotes culture and science, provides access to the cultural heritage collected in Silesia and to exceptionally valuable scientific publications, educational and teaching materials.
