University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn launches Doctoral School

10.10.2019

28 people began their education at the Doctoral School established in accordance with the new Act on higher education at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. Education at the Doctoral School is to enable PhD students to acquire skills that they will need both during research and in their scientific careers as PhD holders. The didactic function for which the Doctoral School is responsible will be separated from the so-called scientific research – explains Prof. Paweł Brzuzan, who is the headmaster of the Doctoral School.

The school provides space, appoints supervisors and promotors for PhD students. And this is the basic difference. At the moment, doctoral schools are replacing doctoral studies. This is not just a change of name, but also a certain philosophy. The emphasis will be on research and quality. Therefore, the most responsibility will be put on future promoters and disciplinary councils – adds Prof. Brzuzan.
