The University of Warsaw was ranked 201-300 in THE University Impact Rankings. The Warsaw University was the only high school from Poland included in this list of 450 universities from 76 countries. The winner of the ranking is the University of Auckland from New Zealand.
The ranking is a new initiative of the Times Higher Education journal, which presents the impact of universities on society and the economy. The ranking assesses how universities contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.
In 2015, UN member states adopted a document containing seventeen sustainable development goals, which concern elimination of poverty, hunger, reducing inequalities, counteracting climate change or reviving global partnership.
The authors of the pilot ranking of the Times Higher Education magazine took into account eleven sustainable development goals. Three of them influenced the ranking position of the University of Warsaw.
