University of Warsaw to hold archaeological exhibition on Easter Island

28.08.2019

Until November 9, 2019, the MAPSE Rapa Nui Museum on Easter Island will hold an exhibition of archaeological works from the University of Warsaw (UW) entitled “The Third Dimension of Archeology”. The visitors can see copies of monuments made in 3D holoprojection and 3D printing, as well as take part in a virtual walk around a cave full of cave paintings.

The exhibition is of multimedia and interactive character. The exhibition is directed to the local community and tourists. Visitors have the opportunity to take part in a virtual walk around the cave Ana Kai Tangata – one of the most famous caves on Easter Island, the only one where cave paintings have been preserved. Currently, the cave is not available to tourists, so a virtual walk is the only opportunity to explore its interior.

The organizer of the exhibition is Dr Maciej Sobczyk from the Center for Pre-Columbian Research UW. The exhibition was created thanks to funds from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
