Employees of the Department of Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation at the University of Zielona Góra’s Collegium Medicum are inviting people to take part in an attempt to break the Polish record in the sign relay. The attempt is scheduled for 23 September on the square in front of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic.

The aim of the relay is, among other things, to popularise sign language and the culture of deaf people, to promote attitudes of respect and acceptance, and to educate the local community by spreading knowledge about communication among deaf people. Beforehand, all those wishing to take part will undergo a quick training course in sign language, and during the record attempt all participants will have the task of signing the phrase “Zielona Góra welcomes you”.

“This event is a summary of our many years of activity. Since 2005, we have been teaching sign language at the University of Zielona Góra as a compulsory or elective subject in many faculties and specialisations”, says Dr Katarzyna Kochan.
