Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University and the Bathory Foundation are organising a public conference “Populism and democracy: a romance or a dissonance?” on 8-9 December 2022.

The aim of the conference, which will take place at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, is to discuss the results of research on populism conducted by researchers from seven European universities under the guidance of Prof. Jan Kubik as part of the POPREBEL project.

The two-day conference will feature four panel discussions: Genealogy – interpretations of the origins of right-wing populism; Consequences – right-wing populism in power; How to counter populism; and Workshops led by Prof Vello Pettai from the University of Tartu and his team.

According to the organisers, the POPREBEL project is intended to help understand the mechanisms behind the victorious march of populism in liberal democratic countries.
