The golden laureate of the 3W Competition – 3W World Leader in the ‘Science’ category was the hydrogen research carried out by Dr Marta Mazurkiewicz-Pawlicka and Zuzanna Bojarska from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology (PW).
The Product Engineering team, led by Dr Łukasz Makowski has developed a technology that will enable widespread and less costly production of hydrogen – extracting it from water during the electrocatalysis process.
Molybdenum disulphide and carbon nanomaterials were used for this purpose. They have promising electro- and photoelectrocatalytic properties for water splitting. Ultimately, the materials will be produced in collision reactors to ensure production reproducibility, continuity and adequate control. The produced hydrogen can be used in fuel cells – a power source for cars or homes.
