Warsaw University of Technology developing a new generation of nanocrystalline steel

06.09.2019

Scientists from the Faculty of Materials Science of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) under the supervision of Eng. Krzysztof Wasiak are working on the development of a new generation of nanocrystalline steel. The development of such steel has a good chance of being implemented primarily for the production of tools, but also for important parts of machines and products exposed to operational wear.

Conventional steels currently used for tool making (so-called tool steels) are hard and durable, but at the same time fragile. The industry is therefore looking for alternative materials. They could be nanobainitic steels. They provide the right combination of high strength and flexibility and can be used for the production of many steel elements.

For the implementation of the project “Development of a new generation of steel with nanocrystalline structure with carbides” Krzysztof Wasiak received funding from the National Center for Research and Development under the LIDER IX program.
