The Balloon Section of the Student Astronautics Club operating at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) joined the experiment called the First Agricultural Space Mission, which will research the influence of extreme conditions on the quality of triticale seeds.
As part of the project, young scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology sent seeds into a stratospheric flight with a special balloon that took off from the Warsaw University of Technology airport in Sieraków near Przasnysz as environmental tests.
During the flight, the seed samples were exposed to low temperature and pressure as well as increased radiation. By the way, we also conducted research on low-frequency radio noise and flight mechanics of very long flying structures – a vertical linear antenna for very low frequencies – said Tomasz A. Miś, PhD student of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of the Warsaw University of Technology.
