Researchers from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, the University of Southeastern Norway and the SINTEF research organisation are developing a way to convert carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane.
The Polish-Norwegian project is a continuation of research during which innovative materials for carbon dioxide capture were developed. Work is currently underway on how to convert carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane. Recently, ammonia has also been successfully obtained, which is not only an intermediate for the production of fertilisers, but also serves as a hydrogen store.
Conducted under mild conditions, the carbon dioxide reduction process takes place using special materials and light obtained by the project. The quantities of products obtained – although similar to those obtained in other research laboratories around the world – are small for the time being, and there is still a long way to go before the research results can be implemented.
