On the occasion of World Philosophy Day, which will be held on 17 November 2022, the University of Lodz (UŁ) is inviting to a panel discussion “Wisely about Philosophy in Education”, which will take place from 17.00 to 19.00 at Wozownia 11 Gallery.
The guiding principle of the annual day established by UNESCO, which takes place on the third Thursday of November, is to increase interest in philosophy, but also to draw attention to the importance of critical thinking – especially among children and young people.
The aim of the meeting will be to draw attention to the need for the presence of philosophy in Polish schools, and to indicate areas in which its potential can be used to develop in students soft competences, so crucial in the 21st century.
Participants of the meeting will also learn about proven methods and ways of working with children and young people in accordance with the thought of Matthew Lipman, who claims that until teachers teach philosophy and know how to philosophise, there is little prospect of thinking in education.
