Wroclaw scientist receives NASA internship

09.01.2020

Dr Eng. Łukasz Sterczewski from the electronics department of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology is working out an ultra-accurate lasers at the US NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. A scientist staying in the USA on a two-year internship meets candidates for astronauts, rover and satellite developers.

A Wrocław scientist deals with laser spectroscopy – a technique in which a laser is used to study the interaction of light with matter. This, in turn, makes it possible to estimate the chemical composition of the tested sample and even remotely; it is enough for the laser light to pass through the tested object and return to it.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is one of the research centers of the American space agency. Located in Pasadena, California, it is responsible for conducting unmanned space flights and is the center for NASA’s tests in space outside Earth.
