Researchers of the University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw are implementing the project “Synthetic microbial consortia-based platform for flavonoids production using synthetic biology” (SynBio4Flav). This is the first research and innovation project implemented at the University of Wrocław under the Horizon 2020 program.
Flavonoids are natural products of plant origin, which are common components of the diet. They show many beneficial health effects, for example they protect from chronic and degenerative diseases. The goal of the project is to implement solutions of flavonoid production alternative to plants by consortia of optimized microorganisms.
The measurable result of the work is the creation of a set of optimized and compatible cell systems (modules) suitable for use in new synthetic biological assemblies. The total budget of the project is almost 7.4 million euros, of which 528 thousand euros will be received by the Wroclaw university.
