Wrocław University of Science and Technology has won almost PLN 80,000 for the development of the “Ulopolis” (Apiarypolis) project. The money is provided by the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław.
“Ulopolis” is an apiary operating at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where scientists are working on measuring instruments and devices to help care for bee colonies. Three hives have been placed on the roof of one of the university’s buildings, ensuring the safety of staff, students and also the bees. A specially designed platform with a fastening system guarantees the hives protection and stability during strong winds. The life of the bees can be monitored around the clock thanks to a system of cameras mounted both at the outlets and inside the hives.
Money from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław will enable the retrofitting of the already existing apiary installation and the development of the website with additional educational features.
