Scientists of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology will carry out research as part of the NanoWires project. The work is part of the European metrology activities of EMPIR, financed by the Horizon 2020 framework program.
The research concerns the measurements of fiber systems with dimensions of tens of nanometers, which can form tissue with dimensions of single square millimeters. They will replace traditional batteries used in various designs of mobile electronics. The nanofibers have excellent electrically conductive properties – they almost completely respond to stimuli and therefore can be used as efficient energy generators.
The results of research carried out at the University of Wrocław should be clear guidelines on how to characterize systems for recovering energy from the environment. The Orsey University in Paris and Metrological Institutes from the Czech Republic and France will also participate in the project coordinated by the German Metrology Institute.
