The Polish Space Agency has completed consultations on a Polish lunar mission. The agency is planning to develop an orbiter that is likely to include experiments prepared by scientists from the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
Companies and universities associated with the Polish space sector took part in the consultation. The project involves constructing a lunar orbiter that would house two or three research experiments. They include a spectrometer developed at the university. The device is less than 1 dm3, weighs less than 500 g and is energy efficient. Its performance is comparable to that of classical, laboratory, large analytical instruments.
The realisation of the Polish lunar mission is expected to be part of a long-term plan to develop trends in Poland related to space mining and other technologies necessary for future manned missions to the Moon.
