Open source software for simulation of macro- and micro-scale phenomena is being developed at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. It allows to create devastating effects in computer games, but also for example a virtual operating conditions.
The program is called Microflow 3D. This is software written in C ++, used to simulate the phenomena of fluid flow, the so-called Lattice-Boltzmann (LBM) method solver. The program has a very universal application, enabling the simulation of phenomena in macro- and micro-scale.
University of Technology researchers managed to automate the entire complex calculation process. This opens completely new areas of application: from virtual reality to device and process control.
The classic applications of the program are computer games and special effects in movies – for example, the realistic movement of leaves and grasses in the wind, waterfalls, rain and fog, as well as fire and smoke, explosions and destructive elements.
