Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Wrocław University of Science and Technology will install sensor systems on freight wagons of trains running throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The data they collect will help to create a digital tool to manage, among other things, the scheduled work, and repairs of wagons. They are working on the solution together with the Szczecin-based company Tankwagon.
For several months, the devices will collect real-time data on, among other things, the temperature of selected suspension elements or vibrations in various planes. The information collected in real time will allow the condition of the rolling stock to be monitored, so that any alarming signals indicating an impending breakdown can be detected immediately.
This is the first such study of the condition of wagons, conducted remotely and on such a large scale. The researchers have not found any studies resulting from similar research in literature. The work is possible thanks to a grant from the ‘Intelligent Development’ programme of the National Centre for Research and Development.
