Scientists of the Faculty of Electronics of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, working on a new type of lasers for two-photon microperimetry – a technique for the diagnosis of the retina of the eye, will receive almost PLN 1 million. The funds will be provided by the Foundation for Polish Science.
Microperimetry is a diagnostic technique that allows to test the sensitivity of the eye’s retina, which enables the assessment of changes in the retina and the detection of its diseases. The two-photon microperimetry is a variant that uses the effect of two-photon vision that occurs in humans when illuminating the retina with an ultra-short laser pulse.
The laser will be used for application in vivo imaging the retina of the eye, thus enabling the creation of tools for advanced and early diagnosis of eye diseases. The work will be carried out in cooperation with research teams from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the International Eye Research Center in Warsaw.
