The Doctoral School of the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn has admitted 31 people this year. This group, in addition to young scientists from Poland, includes also five researchers from Ethiopia, Belarus, Pakistan, Vietnam and Turkey.
From this year, classes at the Doctoral School are taught in English.
“We are starting to work on applications to a number of funding entities for doctoral schools, which may give us funds to bring in excellent foreign academics and to prepare education for summer and perhaps winter schools”, says Prof Paweł Brzuzan, director of the UWM Doctoral School.
Education at the UWM Doctoral School is based on an educational programme and an individual research plan. It is interdisciplinary and conducted in modules. The learning allows doctoral students to acquire skills that they will need both during their research and in their further scientific career after presenting their doctoral thesis.
