16.04.2018

Optimization of deep-tissue photodynamic therapy by measuring fluorescence lifetime is the title of the project presented by Dr David Aebisher for the grant enabling the purchase of scientific research equipment in 2018-2019 – informs Dr. Maciej Ulita, a spokesman of the University of Rzeszów.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education granted PLN 1,811,000. The scientific research program for the implementation includes the purchase of a spectrometer for measuring the lifetime of fluorescence and the lifetime of singlet oxygen and it refers to innovative methods of photodynamic therapy.

Photodynamic therapy is the treatment of cancers that uses photo-generated reactive forms of singlet oxygen (1O2) to damage target cancer cells. The use of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of esophageal cancer, prostate cancer and cell lung cancer is becoming more and more popular among physicians around the world.
