Students of the Medical University of Wroclaw receive co-financing for the cosmic project

12.09.2018

The Student Scientific Circle of Biology of Cancer Cell at the Medical University in Wroclaw won almost 320,000. PLN of funding for a research project on the protection of biological material for the needs of space missions.

The assumption of the awarded project is to send radiation-sensitive human cells (healthy and cancerous) to a height of about 30 km above the Earth’s surface. This will enable checking the influence of sub -osmic conditions on the functioning of human cells including high doses of radiation.

Students will also attempt to develop a biological radiation sensor based on human cells and to check the influence of selected natural substances in terms of their use in pharmacological protection against changes caused by electromagnetic radiation. The money will help in the implementation of laboratory tests and enable participation in courses and conferences. Young scientists want to cooperate with the European Space Agency.
