The 8th World Congress of Polish Language Teachers was held in Krakow on 12-14 July 2023. Its organisers were the Faculty of Polish Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the International Association for the Study of Polish Studies.
The event was held under the motto FILOLOGIA – OD/NOWA. Language-Literature-Culture in the Digital Age.
In formulating the main theme of the 8th World Congress, the organisers encouraged the audience to ask questions about how research issues and engagement in culture and various social practices undertaken by Polish philologists today draw on the heritage of philology, how they transform, question or contest it, how they confront new cultural phenomena (often operating in a digital environment) and, finally, how they understand philology itself.
The event opened with masterclasses by Prof. Michał Paweł Markowski ‘What philology was, is and should be’ and Prof. Danuta Ulicka ‘Roman Ingarden’s philological reading’.
