Scientist from the University of Wroclaw receives the Irena Sendler Award

The Taube Philanthropies Foundation has presented Marcin Wodzinski, Head of the Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wroclaw, with the Irena Sendler Award for 2023. Under his leadership, the Department has established the most respected academic Judaic Studies program in all Central Europe.

The award was created in 2008 by Taube Philanthropies in memory of Irena Sendler, who was honoured by the Yad Vashem Institute with the title ‘Righteous Among the Nations’. The prize is awarded annually to those who distinguish themselves by preserving and revitalising the Jewish heritage of Poland.

Marcin Wodziński is a professor of Jewish history and literature, head of the Department of Jewish Studies at Wrocław University. His area of academic interest is the social history of Jews in the 19th century, the history of Jews in Silesia and Jewish material culture. He is the editor of the Bibliotheca Judaica series of the Wrocław University Publishing House and the Makor series.
