Scientist of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology creates a method to help to collect waste cheaper and faster

03.06.2020

Dr Eng. Robert Giel from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology is developing a method of planning waste collection routes that will optimize the working time and service of garbage trucks and avoid mistakes in the garbage collection system. He received a grant from the National Science Center for research.

The method developed by the researcher will allow to increase the efficiency and quality of the municipal waste collection process and will avoid a situation where the waste is not exported from a specific point on the due date. This is the most common irregularity reported by the residents of Wrocław to the company dealing with supervision waste collection and cleaning up the city.

The beginning of the work will be collecting data from individual collection points. Interviewers will take data on the actual distance of the container from the garbage truck’s stopping point, the condition of the pavement, the technical condition of the containers, the type of entrance to the housing estate or the property and the way how to open the spot with the containers.
