Consortium of the Medical University (UM) in Łódź (leader), the University of Lodz, the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Central Clinical Hospital of the Medical University in Łódź signed the agreement establishing the Academic Center of Virology. The new center will carry out research on SARS-CoV-2 virus and other types of viruses.

-In March, together, we launched a virology laboratory that tests for coronavirus. We decided to use the acquired knowledge and develop cooperation. Diseases caused by viruses accompany us every day. The current situation shows how dangerous they can be, not only for our health. That is why we must learn to diagnose and treat patients even more effectively – said Prof. Lucyna Woźniak, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation of the Medical University in Łódź.

The work of the Academic Center of Virology will be directed by the Program Council, consisting of representatives of each partner. The Council will set strategic directions for the Center’s activities, coordinate and control its work, as well as ensure the optimal level of cooperation within the consortium.
