24.09.2020

The M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences developed a method of group testing for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. As part of a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Institute will start group testing of medical students for the coronavirus. The Ministry allocated over PLN 4 million to the project.

The group testing method will enable quick and effective identification of medical students infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus. This will allow students to participate safely in clinical classes and ensure the safety of patients.

The tests will cover all medical students in Poland. It is estimated that approx. 150,000 swabs will be taken. It will be a population-based study, which means that it will be conducted among people who do not have symptoms of coronavirus infection.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education allocated PLN 4,235,000 to the project. Polish MediPAN tests will be used in the project. The production of tests was also financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
