Scientists of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology are working out the most similar to natural, bioactive, anti-inflammatory and cell stimulating biomaterial for bone regeneration.
Research on the biocomposite in the form of a sponge is carried out by the consortium of the University of Łódź, the Krakow University of Technology, the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials – Łukasiewicz Research Network and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Scientists are creating a material that is expected to ‘behave’ like bone, with similar biological and anti-inflammatory properties, and will be flexible. The biocomposite is to be a perfect complement to bone defects after injuries and in cases of osteoporosis.
The result of the work will be a ready-made solution for the biomedical industry. The project “Multifunctional biologically active composites for applications in regenerative medicine of the skeletal system” (OsteoReg-NET) is expected to be completed in 2023.
