17.11.2020

Researchers of the Opole University of Technology and the Medical University of Poznań have studied the population of over a thousand seniors in the Opole region to determine the frequency of age-related fragility syndrome. This is the first Polish survey of seniors who lead an independent life outside of healthcare institutions.

– The study showed that half of people over 65 show symptoms of fragility syndrome. The methods used by the researchers allowed to characterize various profiles of age-related deficits, i.e. from physical, through psychological to social disorders, – says Prof. Jerzy Sacha of the Department of Biomedical Basis of Physiotherapy, Opole University of Technology.

The obtained research results, published in the prestigious journals “Clinical Interventions in Aging” and “Frontiers in Public Health”, will help to create strategies to prevent the development of the fragility syndrome and allow seniors to stay fit for as long as possible.
