Members of the Science Club of the Wrocław University of Technology, Group of Young Surveyors, together with university graduates and former members of the Academic Aviation Club, developed a bathymetric boat for measuring the bottom of water reservoirs.
Batdron is equipped with a pair of turbine propulsion engines, a navigation module based on GNSS receivers and a measuring sensor in the form of a single-beam sonar. During work, it measures the depth by taking two measurements per second. Thanks to the echo sounder, the unit precisely determines the coordinates and performs measurements with an accuracy of 1 cm – informs the university.
The boat uses satellite navigation technology and thanks to the RTK (Real Time Kinematic) mode, its position can be determined with an accuracy of 2-3 cm. After the collection of measurements is completed, the data is downloaded to a computer and further processing takes place in an office environment. The final result is a bathymetric map showing the topography of the bottom of a reservoir or a watercourse.
