Coordination of activities for the development of Polish quantum research

03.02.2021

Eight Polish research units have signed a letter of intent on the coordination of activities for the development of Polish quantum research. The initiative should support the activities carried out in various research centers in Poland.

The signatories of the letter include: the University of Warsaw (UW), the University of Gdańsk, the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (UMK), the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

-We want to be the voice of the community and a partner for talks with public authorities about the use of quantum technologies, including to strengthen the economic position of Poland – said Prof. Konrad Banaszek, University of Warsaw.

Polish researchers have outstanding achievements in terms of theoretical foundations. Fundamental works on quantum entanglement were created in the 1990s at the University of Gdańsk. The Warsaw and Krakow centers have a long tradition in the field of quantum optics, which is the source of majority of the current research on new methods of communication, detection, metrology and imaging. Scientists of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń are working on very precise atomic clocks that can be used in space navigation.
