Marta Skorek, PhD student at the Institute of Scandinavian and Fennist Studies at the University of Gdańsk, received the prestigious Baltic Sea Science Award 2021 for the research project “Discourse shapes marine space: Representations of the macro-regional governance of the Baltic Sea and their social-ecological implications”.
The project is the laureate’s doctoral dissertation. It focuses on the multidimensional concept of the Baltic Sea space managed at the macro-regional level.
– Through the prism of the human-marine ecosystem relations constructed in the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, this work critically examines the concept of sustainable development and related concepts such as: education, science, research or innovation – says the doctoral student.
The Baltic Sea Science Award is awarded for outstanding contribution to cross-border research cooperation in the area of the Baltic Sea Region in the field of sustainable development.
