The Innspace team, created by Hubert Gross (Rzeszów University of Technology), Magdalena Łabowska (Wrocław University of Science and Technology), Dominik Tokarz (Warsaw University of Technology), Małgorzata Popiel (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań) and Renata Ferduła (Poznań University of Technology), took part in the finals of the International Student competition Aerospace Challenge. The team was awarded the Suborbital Day Special Prize for its joint work on radiation protection for passengers in a suborbital plane.
The subject of suborbital flights is gaining popularity thanks to the success of companies such as Virgin Galactic or Blue Origin – said Hubert Gross, team leader from Rzeszów University of Technology.
The radiation shield on vehicles crossing the outer space line is playing a key role in the health of passengers. The radiation doses received during the suborbital flight exceed the acceptable standards many times, which may result in cancer or radiation sickness.
